Construction Air Management

Dust particles are the main source of air pollution from construction activities. These particles can travel far from the site through air and affect the air quality and health of the neighbourhood.

Production and spread of dust generated during construction activities can be reduced as shown in the following examples:

  1. Precast or prefabrication construction method is adopted in many building construction where the dusty operation/processes are left to be carried out in the off-site fabrication yards where the air environment are under control.

  1. To avoid construction dust from spreading, localized suction devices can be applied for pneumatic breaking works while dust trap-bags can be set out for drilling works. Water can be widely sprayed on construction site to remove the transient dust particles in the air.

Use of mobile sprinkler to minimize fugitive dust generation

  1. Automatic water spraying devices usually set up at site entrance can be used for wheel and shoe washing thus suppressing dust spread.

Vehicles are washed before leaving the site to prevent them carrying dirt away

  1. Covering up the dusty materials stacked on site with cover to prevent the dust particles from re-suspension.
