Caring for People, Caring for the Community

Bettering the Community

UNSDG 3UNSDG 4UNSDG 8

As well as promoting best construction practices, we take an empathetic approach and long-term view on sustainability in the design and construction of public architecture in order to enhance inclusivity and well-being. We also advocate a culture of creating positive impact for the community and encourage our employees to engage in volunteer activities.

We work closely with our industry partners, user departments and stakeholders to develop and maintain public facilities for the general public. In doing so, we commit to incorporating social considerations into our projects to improve the quality of urban living. This is achieved by providing high-quality and accessible public spaces that encourage communication among members of the community and allow the public to enjoy moments of escape from the fast pace of city life.

Engaging the Public

Engaging the public through a variety of enjoyable, educational, and inspiring activities is a key goal of ArchSD. During the year, we organised exhibitions focusing on the history, development, and current trends of public architecture in Hong Kong, both past and future, to provide valuable insights into the architectural heritage of the city.

In collaboration with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), we produced a nine-episode television programme, “Everyday Design – School Projects”, that looked at the importance of design for local schools. The programme covered topics such as the evolution of school buildings in Hong Kong and the connection between school life and architecture. It also featured interviews with architects discussing topics such as the interaction between communities and schools, sustainability, landscaping and new building technologies.

Other notable examples of public engagement during the year included the ArchSD “Ideal Campus” Design Competition and Campus Workshop for students, career talks by ArchSD architects at various primary schools, and a school workshop on design concepts for public buildings to enhance students’ understanding and interest in local building design.

Serving our Communities

At ArchSD, we spare no effort in supporting community wellness through volunteering activities. Beyond our active involvement in public facilities development and engagement, we strongly encourage our colleagues to engage in volunteer services. We have established a Volunteer Service Team to take part in volunteer services, such as redecorating homes for the elderly and visiting elderly homes.

In 2022, our colleagues took part in 22 volunteer works comprising a total of 809 hours of community service.
