Description
Kwun Tong Recycling Station comprises 3 separate building blocks: Office Block with office and multi-purpose room, Sorting Block with area for sorting and storage, and Ancillary Block for toilets and E&M facilities. The building blocks are constructed from recycled containers modified to suit the different spatial and functional needs. The vibrant colour and graphics on building façade provide a welcoming atmosphere and present the building as a unique attraction for the neighborhood streetscape.
Taking the site constraint as opportunity, the non-building drainage reserve area is transformed into a landscaped area open to public. It not only serves as an open space for the Recycling Station activities, but also enhances public engagement and urban connectivity: the public can walk through this landscaped area from Mega Box at Sheung Yee Road to bus stops at Kai Fuk Road while they can have a closer look at what is going on in the Recycling Station. The building blocks are built along the site boundary at the southern corner of the site. Ample greenery is provided between the building blocks and the site boundary to act as a buffer and to enhance the streetscape. The composition of building blocks forms a courtyard, which provides a relatively more enclosed area for operation and activities use.
