A Conservation without Heritage

The project is for the construction of a 30-classroom secondary school at Anderson Road in Kwun Tong for the reprovisioning of Maryknoll Secondary School. The total gross floor area is about 13,300m2 and the overall site area is about 7,500m2. This new bespoke campus captures the history of the school and embraces their innovative tradition, and above all, echoes their founding motto - ad astra. The school is designed to showcase that a school shall not envelop, but empower students to explore and develop themselves on life’s winding road.

The architecture also embodies the sense of serving spirit for the neighbourhood. Unlike typical standard school layouts, this school´s grafting didactic spaces above teaching and administration rooms in a U-shaped building. Through skillful segregation, the campus can simultaneously accommodate different user groups without interrupting one another and thus to the largest extent realise the school’s serving mission.
