Description
Hongkong Post Building is the new headquarters for the city´s postal department, embodying a visionary design of functionality, aesthetics and sustainability. The building comprises a public section including a post office and a postal gallery, and a staff section including working, operation and training spaces.
The design celebrates the values of well-being and sustainability in the everyday working environment, and creates a refreshing oasis within the heart of the vibrant city.
Our innovative design began on urban level. We introduce a landscaped plaza in front of the building, serving as a serene foyer and a green pedestrian pathway, providing a refreshing respite and elevating the wellness of visitors and staff. The plaza also facilitates smooth pedestrian movement across the site and connects the neighbourhood.
At building level, the design prioritises the wellness of users and sustainable workspaces, by creating an inviting spatial environment through emphasis on seamless visual and physical connections, bridging inside and outside by incorporation of greenery and natural light to the interior.
The landscaped terraces and a central courtyard are carefully integrated at various levels, creating an undisturbed connection that allows staff to relish the serene green garden views from their working spaces. These tranquil spaces infused the working areas with sense of openness and welcoming ambiance not only offer a peaceful environment but also function as a gathering hub to enhance the sense of community among staff members.
In terms of tectonic treatments, the architecture achieves a dynamic and captivating presence by breaking down the building mass into distinct components and crafting voids as balconies and terraces. The facades showcase a rich palette including smooth glass, textured GFRC panels, embossed precast fair-faced concrete panels, and recessed modular metal façade, in order to create a harmonious dialogue with the surrounding industrial context.
