Description
This project involves converting the former French Mission Building, built in 1919, to offices exemplifies the adaptive reuse of a historic building – upgrading it to meet the modern functional demands, green building criteria, and statutory requirements without compromising its heritage significance. This declared monument embodies impressive architectural, historical, and social values, which have been meticulously retained throughout the conservation and conversion process.
Not only does the design solution meet the operational needs, but also compatibly addresses green building design and heritage conservation principles including minimum intervention to the historic building. The overall building configuration, external facades and original interior finishes are retained and restored as far as practicable to retain the building’s character and minimise construction wastes. Maximum salvage of the historic building materials was adopted where alterations are necessary and the salvaged materials are reused at other locations of the building as far as practicable.
