FEHD Skylight Market
Description
In 2018 Policy Address, the Chief Executive announced that the Government planned to spare space at the section of Tin Fuk Road outside Tin Shui Wai (TSW) MTR Station for building a new public market. During the interim period, there is a need to provide a temporary market (i.e. FEHD Skylight Market) as a transitional arrangement to meet the local demand for additional choices of fresh food provisions. The temporary market is situated inside the Tin Sau Road Park, which is one of the important open spaces in the district of Tin Shui Wai. Market stalls of 36 nos. and an ancillary services block with loading/ unloading bay were commissioned on 27 December 2020.
To expedite the construction for early enjoyment of the public, Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) method is adopted in this project. There are 18 large and 18 small market stalls using different combination of containers. Each large market stall is composed of individual container while three small market stalls are sub-divided by one 30-feet container.
With the approach of an open and vibrant design fitting in the surrounding environment, an open design in the provision of main weather shelters naturally ventilated is developed and all the market stalls are air-conditioned. Modules of the shelters are manufactured off-site and transported to site for assembly using Design for Manufacturing Assembly (DfMA) method. By adopting both MiC and DfMA method in this project, the construction period can be shortened and demand of site labours can be minimised.
