Fire Station with Ambulance Depot & Police Post at Penny's Bay, Lantau

Description

Scope of Works
The project scope consists of a 7-bay appliance room fire station with ambulance depot, a police post and the ancillary facility at Penny’s Bay in Lantau Island near the Disney Park.
Design Concept
A holistic, sustainable design approach is adopted and a garden style theme is used. The aim is to harmonize with the green surrounding and the nearby Theme Park and minimize the impact to the environment.
Composition
To reduce the visual impact and create a neat roofscape, the complex is broken down into several building blocks. The 7-bay Fire Station and Ambulance appliance bay is contained within a single-storey structure at the centre.Other structures includes a separate four-storey practice centre for confined space, height and ladder practice as well as hose drying;an individually expressed single-storey Police Post and a central Utility Building accommodating shared central building services plant such as a transformer room, emergency generator, etc.

Sustainable features include - Photovoltaic solar panels integrated as part of the roof shading to achieve around 10% of total electricity energy consumption; - Courtyard design to maximize daylight thus reducing artificial light requirements; - Use of natural ventilation throughout the appliance bay; - Low overall thermal transfer values of the Fire Station and Police Post, 12.64 W/m2 and 10.72 W/m2 respectively; - Extensive landscaping compatible with the surrounding environment; - Higher energy efficiency applications including high efficiency lighting, flexible switching, timer and sensor controls, heat pump, etc.; - Use of a vehicle exhaust extraction system to achieve better indoor air quality; - Use of prefabricated materials to reduce on-site construction waste and speed up the on-site construction so as to reduce the impact to the surrounding; - Rainwater collection system for vehicle washing and irrigation; - Overhanging roof design to shade building walls to reduce heat gain and cleaning requirements.
