Ozone depletion substances are chemical compounds that will degrade the ozone layer of the earth’s atmosphere. Since the ozone layer filters the most harmful ultra-violet radiation from the sun (UVB wavelengths) before it reaches the land, therefore, it is essential to avoid the use of ozone depletion substances in the building projects. In the past, these ozone depleting substances like CFCs, HCFCs were used in air-conditioning system as refrigerant but are now phasing out.
