Environmental performance had long been a close concern and objective of our Department in our construction sites. Contractors were encouraged to devote more environmental considerations to their works in addition to the quality of works achieved. Since 2001, we had been conducting annually the Green Contractor Award Scheme in which contractors were given the opportunity to demonstrate their environmental performance on construction sites with an aim to attain continual improvement environmentally as well as the remarkable ultimate standards. It was the nineteenth year in 2019 that the Scheme had been conducted and all our projects under construction in this year including maintenance projects which contract sums exceeded $30 millions participated in the competition. Only those contractors whose contracts had secured the highest scores in environmental performance and no conviction in environmental aspect were nominated to receive the Award.
